Documents Required for Getting Married in Jamaica
Documents Required Where Applicable - Notarized copy of birth certificates (for Jamaican birth certificates only newer versions are accepted0. - Proof of Divorce (if applicable) Notarized copy of divorce (must include Divorce Absolute page) - Notarized COLOURED copy of driver’s license or Passport - Letter stating couple’s occupation, age, date of birth & fathers name - Notarized copy of death certificate in the case of widow/widower - Notarized copy of adoption papers also reflecting name changes - Notarized Change of name deed if other than that stated on the birth certificate which is not associated with a marriage or adoption - Legal translation of documents to English where originals are in another language The marriage licence is a document issued by the Government of Jamaica which grants persons permission to get married on the island. -All applicable documents are to be submitted at least eight (8) weeks in advance of your wedding date. A late fee of U$95 will be applied for documents submitted after this time. -Each document must be notarized by a Justice of the Peace or by a Notary Public. -Scan and email notarized documents to [email protected] prior to mailing. -All photo IDs must be clear & contain your Signature SYMBOLIC CEREMONIES No documents are required for a symbolic ceremony. Please note that this ceremony is not legally recognized and couples will have no legal basis for presenting themselves or taking formal action as marital partners. |
