Timari & Andy's Jewish Wedding at Laughing Waters Ocho Rios Jamaica

It's the first day of Spring 2020, the Wedding Day of Timari & Andrew Schewizer. Traveling from Colorada they chose to have a private Wedding instead of a typical resort wedding at their hotel (Beaches Hotel Ocho Rios) It was our pleasure working with them to create their Dream Destination Wedding in Jamaica and helping to book this heavily sought after wedding venue, Laughing Waters Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
The Schweizer's wedding at Laughing Waters Ocho Rios Jamaica was a Jewish Ceremony held on the beach with a tented reception in the gardens. It's always great working with new clients as we get a taste of their traditions and are always happy to do things a little differently.

Let's have a look at how Timari & Andy celebrated their Jewish Wedding in Jamaica...
The Chuppah:
The wedding ceremony took place under the chuppah (we call it a canopy), a symbol of the home that the new couple will build together. It is open on all sides to welcome people in unconditional hospitality.

Head Coverings: Kippah
Male guests were provided with Kippahs, which are skull caps. The Kippah is worn as a sign of  reverence and humility.

Timari & Andy provided the Kippah at the ceremony, so guests did not have to bring their own. A table was provided at the entrance of the wedding ceremony with the Kippahs and pins.

Circling

Known as hakafot, the tradition of the bride circling the groom seven times is common at many Jewish weddings. There are several reasons for this, but it’s most often seen as the bride creating a “wall of protection” from evil spirits, temptation, and the glances of other women. Others believe the bride is symbolically creating a new family circle.

The Seven Blessings: Sheva B'rachot

The seven blessings focuses on joy, celebration, and the power of love and are recited over a cup of wine during the latter part of the proceedings. The are usually recited in Hebrew though they may be translated into English as well.

The Prayer Shawl

The Prayer Shawl or Tallit is a fringed prayer shawl that may be used in several ways. Here it is used as the cloth portion of the Chuppah and later on in the ceremony it is used during the final blessings where the tallit is wrapped around the couple’s shoulders as a symbol of unity and being surrounded by love.

The Ketubah

The Ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract. It is considered an integral part of a traditional Jewish marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom, in relation to the bride.
Protecting the rights of a Jewish wife is so important that the marriage may not be solemnized until the contract has been completed.

Breaking of the Glass
As the ceremony comes to an end, the groom (or in some instances the bride and groom) is invited to step on a glass inside a cloth bag to shatter it.  This demonstrates that marriage holds sorrow as well as joy and is a representation of the commitment to stand by each other even in hard times. The cloth holding the shards of glass is collected after the ceremony, and many couples choose to have it incorporated into some sort of memento of their wedding day.

Yichud: Seclusion

Following the ceremony, tradition dictates that couples spend at least eight minutes in seclusion. This wedding custom allows the newly married couple to reflect privately on their new relationship and allows them precious time alone to bond and rejoice

Price-Point, Presentation, Perfection!
Shelli and the team did an amazing job to accommodate all of our requests, making our wedding day even more beautiful than imagined and exceeding our expectations. Our family raved about the decor and location. The food and presentation were exceptional; the entertainment, photography crew and the master of ceremonies were perfect! We had a traditional Jewish ceremony, which Shelli did an amazing job to accommodate, from the Ketubah display to the Hora dance. It rained that day (lucky us!) but the Bandoo Event Solutions team was ready with a covering for the ceremony, as well as the cocktail area. Looking back, as many of our friends are currently planning nuptials, I wouldn't go with any other planner, and I wouldn't choose to do everything myself. It was exactly what we wanted, and aside from the decisions every couple must make; food selection, music choices, etc., they made this a truly hassle-free experience. If you're interested in using specific elements of their planning service, each separate entity offered: decor, food, lighting, was wonderful and they really worked with our budget!

When Matt & Andrea came to us to plan their garden/waterfall Destination Wedding we were super excited to bring their vision to life. The botanical garden at Shaw Park is a nature lover's sanctuary. The morning calls of birds, the rushing of the waterfall and the clean crisp air create a beautiful mystic venue, perfect for a fairytale garden wedding.

Creating beautiful archways are our speciality! This semi circular arch was adorned with a infusion of local flowers which added to the tropical feel. The cascading waterfall provided a majestic backdrop.
